Questions and boundaries

Plain-language answers before a first conversation.

These answers explain what Wessmark Studio does, what clients may receive, and what the service does not replace.

What is visual and 3D documentation?

It is an organized record of visible appearance, shape, surface details, scale references, and related files at a specific point in time. It may include photography, 3D scanning, photogrammetry, notes, file indexes, and a client-readable report.

Is this the same as 3D printing?

No. Wessmark Studio is focused on documentation and records. 3D printing or fabrication may be a later use by another specialist, but the studio is not positioned as a generic 3D printing service.

Do you provide appraisals?

No. Wessmark Studio does not provide appraisals, valuation, authentication, or ownership opinions. Documentation may support the work of qualified professionals, but it does not replace them.

Can this guarantee insurance coverage or claim acceptance?

No. Documentation may support insurance records and future review, but Wessmark Studio does not determine coverage, claim eligibility, settlement outcomes, or insurance decisions.

Is a 3D scan exact?

A scan is a useful technical record, but it is not automatically exact for every purpose. Accuracy depends on object material, access, equipment, capture method, processing, and intended use. Wessmark Studio does not provide industrial metrology or engineering certification.

Can every object be scanned?

No. Some materials, surfaces, sizes, locations, lighting conditions, or access limits may make 3D capture unsuitable. Photography and structured records may still be useful.

Do you work with restorers, appraisers, insurers, or estate professionals?

Yes, when the work is clearly documentation support. Wessmark Studio can provide visual and 3D records for qualified professionals to use within their own scope.

Do you travel?

The studio is based in Eastern Ontario and can discuss mobile work depending on location, timing, object/site access, and project fit.

What do clients receive?

Deliverables may include organized photo sets, selected 3D files or model views, scale/context references, file indexes, and a documentation report. Exact deliverables are scoped before quote.

What should I include in my first inquiry?

Include a short description of the object, site, collection, or detail; where it is located; what may happen next; your timeline; the intended use of the records; and whether a restorer, appraiser, insurer, estate professional, municipality, gallery, architect, fabricator, or other professional is involved. Do not send sensitive legal, insurance, or financial documents through the sample form.

How is pricing determined?

Pricing depends on project scope, travel, number and complexity of objects, capture difficulty, deliverables, urgency, processing requirements, and risk. Projects are scoped before quote.

Do you provide engineering certification or industrial metrology?

No. Wessmark Studio does not provide engineering certification, structural assessment, industrial metrology, or certified measurement services.

Do you provide conservation treatment recommendations?

No. Wessmark Studio documents visible condition and object details. Conservation treatment recommendations should come from qualified conservation professionals.
